Charl Fourie is the Director and a Clinical Psychologist at Windsor Allied Health, and a much-respected role model within our team. With over 30 years of experience, Charl is known for his compassionate approach, clinical excellence and commitment to helping individuals and families thrive.
Charl holds a Master’s Degree in Psychology, is a registered Clinical Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and is a member of both the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and the APS College of Clinical Psychologists.
Charl’s clinical work focuses primarily on the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents with a wide range of neurodevelopmental, behavioural, emotional and learning-related needs. He has particular experience working with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Specific Learning Disorders, and presentations associated with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). He also supports young people experiencing disruptive behaviour disorders, including Oppositional Defiant Disorder and Conduct Disorder, as well as anxiety, depression, mood-related concerns and other emotional difficulties. An important part of Charl’s work involves assisting neurodivergent children and adolescents who experience specific learning difficulties, broader learning challenges and differences that can affect their participation, confidence and progress at home, at school and in the wider community.
Charl began his career as a psychologist in military and law-enforcement settings, working within specialist investigative and operational environments. This background has contributed to his extensive experience in trauma care, critical-incident support and psychological services for police, military personnel, first responders and others working in high-risk occupations.
With extensive experience across government and private-sector settings, Charl has also contributed to the profession through university teaching, professional workshops and presentations at national and international conferences.
Charl is a founding member and organiser of the Australian Conference on Neurodevelopmental Disorders, which brings together leading Australian and international professionals to share evidence-based knowledge about autism, ADHD and related neurodevelopmental conditions. He has also served as a member of the Australian Government’s National Autism Strategy Oversight Council, contributing his professional knowledge and experience to national discussions aimed at improving the lives of autistic people and their families.
Charl is also a Director on the Board of the International Council on Development and Learning (ICDL), the home of DIRFloortime®. Through this international leadership role, he contributes to ICDL’s work in promoting relationship-based, developmentally informed and individualised approaches that respect each person’s unique strengths, differences and developmental potential.
Charl is passionate about empowering young people and families through evidence-based, compassionate and individualised assessment and intervention, helping each person build on their strengths, overcome barriers and achieve meaningful personal growth.
Outside of work, Charl enjoys playing chess, exercising, following sport, comedy shows and spending time with his family.
